DSS Braided Elastic 3/8 Inch
DSS Braided Elastic 3/8 inch | 10 mm
Quantity = number of yards.
DSS Braided is a high quality polybraid elastic made in USA by the same mill that does our Baby Soft Diaper Elastic. 65% Polypropylene 35% Rubber.
What makes our elastic better for babies? A general purpose braided elastic like Stretchrite is stiff and firm - it is sold in big box stores for all sorts of sewing and craft projects. DSS Braided has a special soft finish. This lets it stretch out more easily, so it is extra gentle on baby legs. Try it yourself and see!
Sewing: If you plan to apply the elastic with a casing method, use toggles on the elastic, or sew (tack) down just the ends of the elastic - DSS Braided is the elastic you should choose. Be sure to leave a 1 inch tail of elastic at each end, past the point where you tacked it.
Latex Allergy: Baby soft elastic contains natural rubber latex, if you need latex-free elastic choose Lastin instead.
Also sold by the 144 yard spool.
How does DSS Braided compare to Baby Soft elastic?
- stretches out to a fine webbing
- gentle on baby legs yet durable
- has special sewing requirements
DSS Braided -
- narrows when stretched
- made with a special soft finish
- can be sewn by any method
They are both great diaper elastics!

DSS only carried the highest quality of products, why would their elastic be any different.

I dont normally review items, but wanted to compare for this. I had previously used 3/8" Poly Braid from Wazoodle, but I ordered the wrong size when I ordered from them, and decided to order from DSS instead. Five inches of both brands of elastic stretch the same distance (11.5"), but this elastic does not gather as well. I am replacing elastics in Applecheeks diapers, and once installed, the diaper looks as though it needs to be replaced.... I will update once washed if anything changes, however, I dont think I'll be able to use this elastic for my purposes. Someone doing cased elastic probably wont have the issue. I normally use the baby soft woven elastic from DSS when sewing elastic down the length (and it is great!), but the way Applecheeks elastic is installed, I didn't think it would work, so went with the braided....
>>>DSS Note: Our Braided is made extra soft to prevent red marks for those baby thighs, and works best when cased and tacked at the ends. For a sew-in elastic we recommend Baby Soft, as noted by the reviewer.

To prevent unravelling I made a small fold and stitched through before stitching to fabric. Good quality
Not a good choice for thick fabrics.

As far as polybraid goes, this is only a small step above what I can buy at Walmart. I hate how harsh that sounds, but it is true. Not sure if perhaps sources have changed since previous reviews, but I was disappointed when I went out of my way to order a good polybraid for my newborn fitteds. This would probably work well for cased elastic in pockets, AI2s, etc., but didn't work well with the thicker fabrics required for fitteds, at least when elastic is sewn in blind. This lack of versatility is the reason I'm only giving 3 stars. Just for reference, when stretched completely taught, 4" of this elastic stretches to 9", compared with 11" of a different brand that I got from another supplier.

Nice, strong elastic, SO MUCH better than the Walmart stuff... It'd be nice though if you didn't have to leave such a large tab to keep it from unraveling.
(FINALLY!) A Company with an Honest Description!

When DSS says this stuff is better than the "big-box brand polybraid", they were actually telling the truth (unlike some of the other companies that bolster their product's quality!)
DSS's polybraid is sooooooo much softer and of such a better quality than every single other polybraid we've tried!! Our son has an odd-shaped body due to being born extremely premature and his comfort against his sensitive skin is of great importance to us. The elastics -- both the Babysoft knit elastic and the DSS polybraid -- DSS sells is our answer to the terrible digging-in-the-thighs most other elastics do to DS. DH could tell the difference right away and he barely spends a second paying attention to DS's dipes!
Never mind the fact DSS has amazing service and we're so happy to have found them. We will be doing most of our shopping here from here on out. Now, if only I could get them to carry all the other stuff DS needs on a regular basis ;-)

I love this elastic. It is very easy to sew with, stretches great and doesn't warp or fold. I use it in pocket diapers and in a couple of necklines and waists for a toddler's clothes. Very durable and high quality.

Great price, and seems to be working well so far in the diapers that I make.
Elastic is cut to customer length and may not be returned, except in case of store error.
